The cost of Scrum Master certification varies based on the certifying body, region, course format (in-person vs. online), and other factors. Two of the most popular Scrum Master certifications are offered by Scrum Alliance and Scrum.org. Here’s a general breakdown of costs as of my last update in September 2021:
- Certified ScrumMaster (CSM) by Scrum Alliance:
- Cost typically ranges from $1,000 to $1,400 or more. This usually includes a two-day training course taught by a Certified Scrum Trainer and the exam fee.
- Renewal Fee: Approximately $100 every two years, but this can vary.
- Professional Scrum Master (PSM) by Scrum.org:
- PSM I Assessment: $150
- PSM II Assessment: $250
- PSM III Assessment: $500
- The training course (“Professional Scrum Master class”) is optional, and its cost varies based on trainers and location, but it’s usually in the range of $1,000 to $1,400 for two days.
- Note: The assessment fees are separate from the course fees.
There are several other Scrum Master certifications available from various organizations, each with its own pricing structure:
- SAFe Scrum Master by Scaled Agile: Typically ranges from $895 to $1,295, which includes training and one exam attempt.
- Scrum Master Certified (SMC) by SCRUMstudy: The training and certification cost might vary, but the standalone exam voucher is usually around $450.
- Agile Scrum Master by EXIN: Costs vary based on training providers and regions, but the exam alone might cost around $250.
It’s essential to check the official websites of these certifying bodies or contact training providers directly for the most current prices. Also, consider any additional costs such as study materials, retake fees, or membership fees where applicable.
